Museum
American Association of
Museums (AAM) National membership and service organization for museums. It provides valuable information on how to start a museum and on the IMLS-funded Museum Assessment Program. Publishes AVISO newsletter and MUSEUM news magazine. Documentary Heritage
Program (DHP) The grants program concentrates on identifying, collecting, and making available historical records related to under-documented groups and topics. Support is available for arranging and describing records, evaluating and planning for archival program development as well as surveying collections. Regional services, including workshops, are also provided. The Exhibition Alliance
(TEA) Provides exhibition design and fabrication service, lighting and gallery design,graphic design, crating, fine art storage, and temporary exhibition insurance. In addition to creating educational resources for the field, TEA provides a variety of free downloadable resources on its website (www.exhibitionalliance.org). TEA assists in the creation of traveling exhibitions and manages a variety of traveling exhibitions for institutions and artists. Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation's libraries and museums. Its mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. The Institute works at the national level and in coordiation with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture, and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development. Lower Hudson Conference
(LHC) Administers the NYSCA Museum Program's Conservation Treatment Regrant Program. Serves the museum and history communities of the greater metro-Hudson Valley Region through workshops, professional development training, web resources, and consultations on collections care, interpretation, planning and policy development, and documentary heritage. Offers participatory programs, print and on-line newsletters, and an annual meeting. Museum Association of
New York (MANY) A statewide service and advocacy organization for museums and historical agencies providing networking and information referrals; research, publications, white papers, and a biennial salary survey; annual conference (with Upstate History Alliance), monthly on-line poll questions, and MANY "e-Connections" electronic newsletter for members. New York City Museum
Educators Roundtable (NYCMER) Holds regular meetings on topics of interest to museum educators, sponsors an annual conference, and provides job and program postings to members. New York Council for
the Humanities Offers grants and programs for humanities based cultural institutions in NYS. New York State Program
for the Conservation &Preservation of Library Research
Materials Provides grants to preserve deteriorating library research materials, include collections of unique photographs, brittle newspapers and archives and architectural drawings. The Program also sponsors workshops. Upstate History
Alliance (UHA) A service organization dedicated to building the capacity of upstate museums to serve their communities. Administers grants for the NYSCA Museum Program's "Get Ready, Get Set, Go!" program for technical assistance and professional development. Also administers the grant and professional development program for Heritage New York. Programs and grants are available to museum professional throughout the state. Western New York
Association of Historical Agencies (WNYAHA) Encourages cooperation among historical societies, museums and related institutions in the twelve counties of Western New York. Offers symposia, annual meeting, monthly newsletter and Speakers Bureau. |
