Adaptive Environments

Adaptive Environments is a not-for-profit organization that is one of the leaders in the development of universal design. Their web site has a reference library and resource publications and materials for purchase. They also have a technical assistance center.


Center for Universal Design

Part of the School of Design at North Carolina State University, the Center develops publications and instructional materials, and provides information, referrals, and technical assistance on issues of universal design.


Independent Living Centers

Independent Living Centers are not-for-profit organizations throughout New York State. Each Center offers a different menu of services, but most include technical advice on making facilities usable, on-going training about inclusion, information, consultant and resource lists. New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities

As the successor agency to the former NYS Commission on Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled and NYS Office of Advocate for Persons with Disabilities, the CQCAPD serves as an advocate and a resource for individuals of all ages with all types of disabilities.


U.S. Access Board

The US Access Board sets the recommendations on architectural access guidelines. Their site has the ADA architectural guidelines and notices of proposed changes to the guidelines. There is always a period during which the public may comment on guideline changes. An e-newsletter is also available.
