  Services to the Field

Services to the Field provides support for managerial, artistic, or information services that strengthen the nonprofit infrastructure for the visual arts in New York State. Eligible projects include convening opportunities, publications and support for ongoing collaborative relationships. This category cannot be used to commission public art projects or support an individual artist project.

Funds from this category may cover consultants' fees, administrative fees, and/or travel expenses within New York State as applicable. Applicants should confer with NYSCA staff before the registration deadline.


Application Instructions

The online application form includes the questions below. Applicants are also required to submit: online Organizational Budget for the current fiscal year, Project Budget (please use the Budget Notes section to detail income and expense items), Cultural Data Project Report and support materials.

Please note that your request amount should not exceed 50% of the total Project Budget.

First-time applicants are required to call staff before the registration deadline.


Application Narrative Questions

Artistic/Programmatic

1. Program Summary
Briefly describe the service and how it relates to other programs in your organization. If applicable, discuss how artists are involved, identifying which artists will participate during the request year and whether or not they are New York State residents. If they are not NYS residents, describe the benefit of this service to local artists and the public. Please include your organization's URL.

2. Project Staff
Describe the staff, advisors, and consultants providing the service, summarizing their credentials and roles. If selection of project personnel is pending, describe the qualifications of individuals being sought.

Managerial/Fiscal

3. Delivery
Describe the organization's technical, administrative, and information capacity to deliver the service. If a website or other electronic medium is involved, how will it support the service(s) and how will it be maintained?

4. Finances
Describe plans, projects and activities for meeting the expenses of this project. What is the role of the board in decision making? Who is responsible for oversight of this service?

5. Evaluation
Describe your methods for on-going assessment and evaluation. If the proposed project is a one-time event, what are your intended outcomes and the plans for assessment? Summarize the selection process, if one is required, for participation in the project.

6. Publications
If funds are requested for a publication, describe the content of the publication or series and the editorial policies and the method of soliciting artwork and/or articles. Detail the publication schedule within the grant period; please include the print run. What is the fee schedule for contributors and artwork, and if art is reproduced in the publication, what are artists paid?

Service to the Public

7. Audience
Describe the audience for this service, in terms of target population, volume and level of use.

8. Marketing and Outreach
Describe your marketing plans. Explain how this service or program is searchable on your website. What is the plan for expansion or outreach to new communities, if any?

9. Public Education
How does this program support artistic excellence within the field or community of artists that are served? How does this service advance public understanding of visual art and the role of the artist?

Please list all of the support materials and/or work samples you are submitting. These materials are critical to your application's assessment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Refer to the Instructions for Work Samples and Support Materials prior to submission.

NYSCA encourages the submission of Web-based Work Samples and Support Material whenever possible.

1. Representative samples of brochures or marketing materials, as appropriate. Do not send press, reviews or notices. Include your organizational URL.

2. Sample questionnaires, on-line surveys, or user evaluations of your services, as applicable.

3. If funding is requested for an ongoing publication, provide 1 copy each of the three most recent issues.

4. You may provide up to 10 images that best represent your request.
