Application deadline: September 5

Support is available to nonprofit record companies and ensembles for recording and distribution. Funding in this category is available for the production, packaging, and distribution of the recording. If the applicant has a contract agreement with a commercial label, funding is available for preparation costs up to the studio door.

Priority is given to the recording of American works. A minimum run of 1,000 copies must be produced.

Note: Applicants may not apply in both Recording and Radio Production and Broadcast categories in the same year.


Application Instructions

The on-line application form includes the following questions, and a project budget. Required support materials are listed below.

Application Narrative Questions

1. Program Summary
Describe the significance of the proposed recording(s) in relationship to your organization's mission. Note whether the session marks a new direction or builds on previous activities.

2. Focus/Theme
State the focus or theme of the proposed session and explain why this particular recording was selected.

3. Musical Works
List the work(s) to be recorded.

4. Artistic Personnel
Who are the individual(s) responsible for selection and interpretation of the work being recorded?   Provide a brief resumé of the producer and other key creative personnel. Note the name of the ensemble and provide brief biographies of solo artists, if applicable.

5. Distribution
Provide a clear and detailed distribution plan for the recording.

6. Rights
Who owns the proprietary rights of the compositions scheduled to be recorded?

7. Project Time Frame
What is the time frame for the recording(s)?

8. Marketing
How will the project be marketed? Note target market, format choice, packaging, pricing, etc.

9. Finances
Describe the plans, projects and activities for meeting expenses of this project.


Support Materials

Support materials must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the program by the application deadline. If you want support materials returned, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

1. Sample cassette/CD of the performing ensemble.

2. Letter of commitment from the recording company, if applicable.

3. Letter of agreement and release from artists to be recorded, if applicable.

4. Resumés of the producer and key creative personnel.
