  Radio Production and Broadcast  

(Competitive category)
Registration deadline: March 3
Application deadline: September 5

Support is available to independent producers, public radio stations, and ensembles for the production and broadcast of a radio series or a single program. Individuals may apply only through an eligible nonprofit sponsoring organization. Priority is given to projects involving contemporary American music. Projects should include an educational component with narrative and/or interview.

Note: Applicants may not apply in both Recording and Radio Production and Broadcast categories in the same year.


Application Instructions

The on-line application form includes the following questions, and a project budget. Required support materials are listed below.

Application Narrative Questions

1. Project Overview
Describe the significance of the proposed production/broadcast in relationship to your organization's mission. Note whether the broadcast marks a new direction or builds on previous activities.

2. Focus/Theme
State the focus or theme of the proposed broadcast and explain why this particular production was selected.

3. Artistic Personnel
Who are the individual(s) responsible for selection and interpretation of the work being broadcast?   Provide a brief bio of the producer and other key creative personnel. Note the name of the ensemble and provide brief biographies of solo artists.

4. Musical Works
List the musical works to be broadcast.

5. Marketing & Distribution
How will this broadcast work be marketed and distributed?

6. Educational Goal
Describe the educational goals of the project and what methods will be used to educate listeners about the music being broadcast?

7. Radio Station/Time
If this project has been scheduled for broadcast, give details of the radio station(s) and broadcast times. If not, describe your plans for obtaining broadcast.

8. Finances
Describe the plans, projects and activities for meeting projected expenses.


Support Materials

Support materials must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the program by the application deadline. If you want support materials returned, provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

1. Release form and letter of agreement from the ensemble or orchestra including the instrumentation, number of artists in the ensemble and a list of all soloists, conductors or special personnel

2. Five-minute representative sample audio cassette or CD of the work of the applicant (artist/s, ensemble, orchestra, etc.) No master tapes, please

3. Resumé of the producer and key creative personnel
