Workspace
Registration deadline: February 22, 2011 All grants awarded in this category are two-year multiyear awards. EMF supports ongoing efforts in film and digital media training, education, access and exploration. The Workspace category funds public workshops, production facilities, artists' residencies and workspace (virtual as well as physical), and technical assistance at low cost. This category also supports equipment purchase. Requests in this category should demonstrate an integrated view of technology planning, management and program design. Demonstrated relevance to the changing needs of working artists is a consideration in evaluating proposals. EMF encourages the participation of media artists as educators and mentors in the development of programs and in facilities design. Workspaces are expected to demonstrate stable management, salaried professional staff, technical support and maintain regular business hours. Workspace proposals with an emphasis on reaching under-served populations are encouraged. Training and workshops must address the art as well as the craft of teaching film, new media, sound art, and video. Workspace proposals must demonstrate strong evidence of film and electronic media as an art form in production standards and training curriculum. Electronic Media and Film also welcomes proposals that help professional and mature media artists advance their knowledge and use of new technologies. This category does not support youth media projects in grades K-12. Proposals will be considered when working with participants aged 15 years and older in after school pre-professional training programs for young artists and/or independent youth media summer workshops. Residency requests are encouraged to facilitate networking and professional development opportunities through interaction with other artists, arts professionals and the local community. Residency programs should be designed to allow maximum flexibility for artists to do their work. Support for facilities, residencies, and workshops may be incorporated into a single request, if appropriate. Application Instructions The online application form includes the questions below. Applicants are also required to submit: online Organizational Budget for the current fiscal year, Project Budget (please use the Budget Notes section to detail income and expense items), Cultural Data Project Report and support materials.
