(Competitive Category)
Registration deadline: March 3
Application deadline: September 5

This category will be conducted competitively, without Staff review. All grants awarded in this category are two-year grants.

The Program supports ongoing efforts in film and media arts education, access, training, and exploration with an emphasis on new thinking about the art and tools of new technologies. The Workspace category funds workshops, residencies, production facilities, workspace (virtual as well as physical) and technical assistance at low cost. This category also supports equipment purchase and software upgrades.

Requests in this category should demonstrate an integrated view of technology planning, management and program design. Demonstrated relevance to the changing needs of working artists is a consideration in evaluating proposals. The Program encourages the participation of media artists as educators and mentors in the development of programs and in facility design.

Workspaces are expected to demonstrate stable management, salaried professional staff, technical support, and maintain regular business hours.

Workshop requests with an emphasis on reaching under-served populations or youth are encouraged. Workshops must address the art as well as the craft of teaching film, new media, sound art, and video. The Program also welcomes proposals to help professional media artists advance their knowledge and use of new technologies.

Residency requests are encouraged to facilitate networking and professional development opportunities through interaction with other artists, arts professionals, and the local community. Residency programs should be designed to allow maximum flexibility for artists to do their work.

Support for facilities, residencies, and workshops may be incorporated into a single request, if appropriate.
